RANCHI: The ayurveda, yoga, unani, sidhha and homeopathy (AYUSH) cell of the health department has planned to set up a unique research institute in the state based on the guidelines of the Government of India. The project cost will be shared by the state government and the Centre.

AYUSH director S N Jha said, “Fifty percent of the cost will be borne by the state government and the rest by the Centre. Related courses like ayurveda, homeopathy and others will be taught to the students at the undergraduate and postgraduate level. A hospital will also be set up in the premises.”

People not only in India but also the world over are turning to ayurveda and yoga for their health-related problems. “Jharkhand with a thick forest cover will be a boon for the state, as that will help in the making of various ayurvedic drugs. Besides, this will also generate employment. In keeping with this trend, we thought of setting up such an institute here,” said Jha.

He also said in Jharkhand some of the existing ayurveda colleges are set up in different districts like Ayruveda College in Chaibasa and Pharmacy Ayurvedic College in Gumla. “Our motive is to set an umbrella institute where all types of studies and research as well as drug manufacturing can take place under one roof. But the major challenge is of infrastructure, which we hope the state government will help in setting up,” said Jha.

The nodal officer of AYUSH, Ravinder Rai, said “We’ll require 10 acres of land, which will be provided by the state government. The mapping of the whole project is under process. But there are several other aspects which call for an elaborate discussion by higher authorities in the health department. We hope to be through with the planning and deliberations by the middle of this year.
